TIME TO HIRE
BUSINESS GROWTH
TIME ON ADMIN
Matanya Loewenthal
Founder & CEO, The Loewenthal Corporation
Matanya Loewenthal built his company on one core belief: founders don’t need more advice, they need someone who can actually execute.
After years of shipping AI infrastructure and spinning up zero-to-one systems, he created The Loewenthal Corporation to give startups access to a “McKinsey for people who actually ship things”: an on-demand execution partner who can build teams, ship product, and get momentum back on their side.
But execution at that level requires people. And people require hiring, onboarding, contracts, payments, and compliance– none of which move at the speed Matanya expects from himself or from the teams he builds.
Running multiple client projects meant every new contractor introduced hours of administrative drag. If he had to run his own back office, the business simply couldn’t scale.
Problem
Scaling execution was easy. Scaling admin wasn’t.
Matanya can hire world-class engineers, build entire product lines, spin up infrastructure, and unblock teams in hours, but even he can’t out-engineer paperwork.
Every new contractor meant more friction:
• contracts
• onboarding
• compliance
• W-9s
• invoicing
• payroll
• tracking time
• making sure no one gets lost in the shuffle
For a professional services business built on speed and precision, these were existential bottlenecks.
“If I had to do the onboarding nonsense myself, I just wouldn’t have done it. I wouldn’t have hired these people.”
Hiring even one contractor could take weeks with the wrong tools.
Hiring six? Across multiple clients? With zero operational staff?
Impossible, at least without slowing down the execution engine he’d built his business on.
“The less time I have to deal with the annoying part of onboarding, the more time I can spend upfront making sure that the employee is ready for success so they can just go in and start helping clients.”
Matanya needed a way to scale his team without becoming an HR department.
Solution
Hiring at the speed he works
After dealing with clunky payroll tools as an employee, Matanya knew he wanted a provider that integrated seamlessly with the tools he already liked using, like Mercury and Puzzle.
He found Central through his accounting platform, Puzzle, and immediately noticed the difference. No annual contracts, enterprise friction, or long sales cycles. Just a system that moved as fast as he did.
The magic hit on his very first hire. He and a candidate agreed on terms. Matanya opened Slack and typed:
@Central hire Daniel as a contractor for $X an hour starting on Y
“It popped into a flow, I clicked a few things, and I was done. An hour later he signed. We were already moving,” says Matanya.
Suddenly, the slowest part of his business, hiring, became instantaneous.
Converting an external team in-house, no ops required
Matanya recalls an early moment when he realized how different his workflow was with Central. A client asked, “Great, you found a person for this project, when will they be ready to start?”
His answer stopped them: “They've already started. We've dealt with the paperwork, and they're already ramping up. Over the past week, they made six commits against your project. They're already learning how to integrate into the team,” recalls Matanya.
So when that same client later decided they wanted to bring the entire team Matanya had assembled in-house, the transition was a short meeting.
“I sat down and had a 15 minute conversation with them, where I said ‘yeah, I hired everyone in like three minutes and it’s all done and set up,’” says Matanya.
The client couldn’t believe it. They started asking how contractors submitted invoices, where payments went, who tracked everything.
“They were like, well, how do they submit their invoices, like to an email address or whatever? I’m like, no, Central just takes care of it. Contractors just go to Slack and say ‘@Central here’s what my hours were this week’, then I approve it and it’s part of the next payroll,” says Matanya.
"Contractors just go to Slack and say ‘@Central here’s what my hours were this week’, then I approve it and it’s part of the next payroll.”
When they pushed further, trying to understand how he managed onboarding, payroll, documents, and accounting across multiple contractors, Matanya showed them.
“I was like, I don’t think you understand what I can do with Central,” recalls Matanya.
He opened Slack, typed a command, and demonstrated it live:
“I did: ‘@Central give me a filled out W9 for the Loewenthal Corporation’, and 20 seconds later, it’s there.”
That’s when it clicked for them.
“His mind literally exploded. They see something like this and realize that this is a 50-person department at their company.”
A simpler way to manage accounting, too
For Matanya, Central also became the place where payroll and accounting tied together cleanly; one less system he needed to maintain, monitor, or manually update.
As someone who values tools that work for him, the difference was immediate.
“I like products where I don’t have to update my tools; I want my tools to update me,” says Matanya. “Central fits that. I don’t have to track everything across systems. I just give it to Central and it’s taken care of,” he says.
Instead of jumping between platforms, spreadsheets, and inboxes, he relies on Central’s Accounting Lead to manage his books in Puzzle, surface what matters, right in Slack: payments going out, invoices coming in, outstanding items, and the financial picture of his business.
Having payroll and accounting handled in the background means fewer interrupts, fewer edge cases to chase down, and more space to focus on the work that actually moves his clients forward.
Results
A business that scaled faster than expected
With Central handling onboarding, payroll, compliance, and document ops, Matanya could finally pour all his time into what his clients hire him for: execution.
The outcome?
A professional services firm that hit $1M ARR in five months.
Six contractors onboarded instantly.
Zero time wasted on admin.
But the real unlock was activation energy gained.
“Central brought me above the activation energy to actually hire. My business, as a professional services company, would not exist if Central didn’t make it so easy for me to hire people.”
Now, he can scale a full execution team, hand it to a client, and seamlessly offboard or transition them when needed.
“I’m trying to see how far I can scale this before I even need full-time employees. With Central, maybe the one-person billion-dollar company actually happens,” he says.
